WiiRadio 0.4 Released

I finally got the time to finish up and release WiiRadio 0.4.  It contains a lot of fixes, stream playback should be much smoother now.  Also three more visuals have been added.

Unfortunately I did not have a chance to finish everything.  There are still outstanding requests and issues I’m working on such as widescreen support and a less laggy cursor.

    WiiRadio is fantastic! I love it. I can’t understand why Nintendo doesn’t invite homebrew developers to distribute their excellent software through official channels. I would be willing to pay Nintendo a fee for providing the service if enough of the cash got back to the homebrew developers. Contrary to what Nintendo may think, homebrew like yours only increases interest in their hardware.

    Homebrew apps like WiiRadio greatly enhance the Wii console. My friends are amazed what some homebrew apps allow the Wii to become – a versatile multi-faceted platform as opposed to the limited and crippled “vanilla” version that comes out the box. Heck, homebrew allowed the SD slot to read SDHC cards before Nintendo’s own update rectified that issue.

    Thanks for such a great app.

    Thanks for the positive feedback :)

    Yes, a lot of the homebrew community wonder why Nintendo seem to put up road blocks instead of embracing homebrew. Microsoft seem to have done this and if it weren’t for homebrew the iPhone would not have sold millions here in the US.

    hey thanks for this apps its awesone….bus i got a question…i download pls from my computer and i put in the SD card bus the wiiradio dosent read that files. can u help me?

  12. admin says:

    Sure, I’ll try and help you. Can you post the contents of the playlist file so I can see what the issue is.

  13. Carlos says:

    ok thnaks…here is the firts one:

    [playlist]
    NumberOfEntries=1
    File1=http://67.159.26.93:8026
    Version=2

    the second:

    [playlist]
    numberofentries=1
    File1=http://uplink.duplexfx.com:6022/
    Title1=181.FM – True R&B (32)
    Length1=-1

    the last one:

    [playlist]
    numberofentries=1
    File1=http://sc12.1.fm:7088
    Title1=1.FM – Urban Adult Choice
    Length1=-1
    Version=2

    ok thats it…i hope u can help me thanks a lot.

  14. admin says:

    The first is missing the Title1=Whatever. Just add that to the file.

    The second try removing the (32) from the end of the Title1=

    The last one I can’t see anything wrong with. Maybe the other two being bad is effecting WiiRadio from reading it. I’ll have to look at that.

  15. Carlos says:

    thanks bro…now that files work perfert! if u find the problem with the 3rd radio please letme know…thnks again

  16. Steinchen says:

    I wonder how could I add WiiRadio to Wii as a stand-alone channel, not inside homebrew.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    – I believe the processes is called WADDING and there are a few out there for WiiRadio already. Due to the WAD Tools using copyrited materials it’s currently somewhat illegal.

    Hi,

    I posted yesterday a question, but it seemed to be removed some how, so I will try again here.
    On some sites there is written that WiiRadio can play M3U files/links. How can I add them at the playlist? The PLS are no problem, just the M3U.

    Thx

  19. admin says:

    @johny1900

    You can just copy m3u playlist files to the pls folder under /apps/radiow/pls on the SD card.

    Also your post was not removed, all post must be approved to stop spamming :)

  20. johny1900 says:

    Thx For the fast answer.
    It might sound stupid, but what is the structure of an M3U playlist? Is it the same as the PLS one? So where the “Http://…../xxx.pls” I just do the same, but with the URL of the M3U one?

    BTW, you really should make a Wiiware soft out of it, anybody would give 5€(500 points) for it, even more (I would!)

  21. admin says:

    M3U spec can be found here – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M3U

    Thanks for suggesting wiiware, I highly doubt Nintendo would allow it on there. Anyway WiiRadio is a little project I enjoy developing (when I have time) I don’t have any plans to charge for it.

  22. johny1900 says:

    Thx for the link, But I just can not get it working. As I need to add the next link “http://www.listenlive.eu/vrtmnm-mid.m3u” for example. And a M3u Playlista is more a file where you add Mp3 files. The link I just gave is a Belgium Radio and they only send using the M3U extention, So I guess I am back to my starting point. The bad thing is that it works with MpLayer, but I just love your program as it is simple, straight forward and easy to work with, not to mention the great screensaver while you listen the radio.
    Any suggestions?

  23. admin says:

    Sure that’s the right link? I can’t even play that M3U with winamp.

  24. johny1900 says:

    Hi, on a website they suggested me to load the radiostation with winamp and than save the file/playlist to M3u or PLS files. I did both, but then I still got a streamerror. Althought in Winamp they work file. Here are the files Winamp creates. Maybe you can help me out with it:
    File PLS:
    [playlist]
    File1=http://mp3.streampower.be/mnm_hits-high.mp3
    Title1= (MNM hits | kwaliteit ***)
    Length1=-1
    NumberOfEntries=1
    Version=2

    File M3U:
    #EXTM3U
    #EXTINF:-1, (MNM hits | kwaliteit ***)
    http://mp3.streampower.be/mnm_hits-high.mp3

    I don´t understand it as winamp creates them and theyr work in Winamp without problems. I think it has to do something with the MP3 extetion, but then again “who am I to say so” ;-)

    What can/do I do?

    Thx already

  25. admin says:

    Well not sure what’s going on. http://mp3.streampower.be/mnm_hits-high.mp3 does not play either in winamp for me. Say’s [timed out]

  26. johny1900 says:

    Strange, I just added it to Winamp and it plays fine.
    (http://mp3.streampower.be/mnm_hits-high.mp3)

  27. johny1900 says:

    I just took the M3U file (which created Winamp) from the SD card. Clicked on it twice and it started Winamp and played it withouth problems. But in Wiiradio it doesn´t play.
    I will try another thing and come back

  28. johny1900 says:

    Ok I tried the next thing but no result (in a M3U file)
    #EXTM3U
    #EXTINF:-1, (MNM hits | kwaliteit ***)
    http://www.publicradiofan.com/cgi-bin/wrap.pl?s=http://mp3.streampower.be/mnm_hits-high.mp3

    This is given when I go on the Winamp Link and shoose, “SAVE AS”. It creates a M3U file with the URL inside of it. ALthought when I double click on it, it starts Winamp and it works.

    thx already for trying to help me

  29. admin says:

    Hi Johny1900,

    Here’s what I found.

    Yes I can playback that stream sometimes but I think their server is at max most of the time causing a timeout error. WiiRadio does not specifically report the errors but just won’t connect.

    If you have a playlist (.pls) like so it should work, or course if their server is not max’d out.

    [playlist]
    File1=http://mp3.streampower.be/mnm_hits-high.mp3
    Title1=MNM hits | kwaliteit ***
    Length1=-1
    NumberOfEntries=1
    Version=2

  30. johny1900 says:

    Hi,

    I tried your code/pls but it doens´t start with the program WiiRadio, althought if I execute it on my PC it starts Winamp perfectly and you hear the music (same pls file), so the server is not at his max.
    Shoudl I try and install your program again on my SD card? Would that help?

  31. knarrff says:

    Version 0.4 does not work with URLs without port specifier, e.g. http://mp3.streampower.be/mnm_hits-high.mp3 does not work, but http://mp3.streampower.be:80/mnm_hits-high.mp3 should. Version 0.5 will have that fixed.

  32. johny1900 says:

    Knarff, that would be FANTASTIC if version 0.5 will have that fixed!!! It would be great to hear some radio stations from my country using the Wii.
    In the meanwhile I will pacientely wait on the release of that version. Any release date in mind ;-) ?

    Thx again for making such great program!

  33. admin says:

    Hi Johny1900,

    There are a lot of new feature in v0.5 that we need to make stable and test. Thanks to now having the support of knarrff the next release should be out sooner but there is no firm data yet. I’ll keep you posted when we have a better idea of a release date.

    For now like Knarrff said you should be able to play a station running on port 80 by changing the name to include the port like :- http://mp3.streampower.be:80/mnm_hits-high.mp3
